Initiators and objective

Legislation and standards do not align well with business practice, we have been hearing for decades. While you have a practical question about the requirements a machine, a situation, or a person must meet, legislation refers you to a forest of standards. Instead of a solution, you get an additional problem... that just doesn't work...

Our objectives
- Critically monitor the development of laws and regulations
- Bundle and disseminate practical experience with laws and regulations
- Develop readable and usable translations of laws and regulations
- Organize knowledge and experience exchange between users
- Function as a knowledge and information center

Initiators of Euronorm.net
Euronorm.net is an independent and neutral information platform. By using the TOP scheme of the University of Twente, we investigated and mapped out the information problem concerning laws and regulations. Thanks to Syntens (now KvK), the Innovation Network for entrepreneurs of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and a number of multinationals, the site gained momentum at the time. And, we received subsidies from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work during the start-up phase.

And, with special thanks to the people who dedicated themselves with great enthusiasm.

Andries de Blaauw, former technical director at the former VEV and Wubbo Winter (my father), first working at Koninklijke Scholten Honig in Foxhol and later applying at NNi, now NEN in Delft. Both gentlemen retired around 1988 and 'still wanted to do something'. They have unfortunately passed away in the meantime, but in the early days, no bridge was too far for them. We had great times then.

Also Chris Derksen, former Head of Electrical Engineering at the Royal Netherlands Navy, made a tremendous contribution to the NEN 1010 and NEN 3140 courses; everything was always worked out in detail for the client we worked for.

And of course, Willem Verwoerd, advisor at Syntens, later Chamber of Commerce. He always gave his all to answer customer questions in the context of, for example, CE marking, which was brand new in the early days and raised many questions. And, Willem was never too proud to delve into it.
